About My Climb

Among walking the Camino de Santiago, rock climbing in Yosemite, and perfecting a vegan chocolate chip pancake recipe, climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro has been on my bucket list for quite a while now.   Beyond the obvious physical and mental challenge of scaling a 19, 341 foot mountain, I want my climb to be more than just a personal feat, which is why I have chosen to help the children of Agape.  David's mission is something I truly believe in.  Just like David's struggles have been, I know my climb will be strenuous, exhausting, and formidable.  There will be times when I will want to give up.  That is when I will have to remember the children's loving faces, and remember David, who has never given up a day in his life.

On August 5, 2012 I will begin my ascent along with a local guide, seven strangers, and about 20 porters who will carry the majority of our gear.  There are six established routes to take up Mt. Kilimanjaro;  I have opted to take the Lemosho Route pictured below.  This route is supposed to be one of the most scenically beautiful and varied.  Although one of the more challenging routes, it is done over a period of 7-8 days, allowing for proper acclimatization.

Keep posted for a detailed account of my summit to the top!
